Speech in Milan, April 22, 1945

To the Fascists of Milan and the Province, and to Fascist Refugees

By Benito Mussolini

Dear Milanese comrades! Dear comrade refugees!

You did well in coming to see me this morning. I feel once again the beating of your generous hearts.

Very important decisions are being discussed; the orders, therefore, will not fail.

The next few hours will determine the outcome of the war. Perhaps the Po Valley will become the new battlefront.

We must be prepared to resist. Only by resisting will we have the possibility of obtaining an honourable peace.

But whatever happens, never forget the camaraderie we preserved in these terrible hours of the Fatherland; we must be united now more than ever.
