Telegram to Adolf Hitler, December 11, 1944

(Published in Corriere della Sera, December 12, 1944)

December 11, 1944

On this day in which we celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Pact of military alliance between the Axis Powers and the Japanese Empire, my thoughts turn particularly to you, Führer, and to National Socialist Germany. Victory has always come to those people who fight for a high human ideal and for their supreme reason for living. With unshakable confidence in the justness of the cause for which Germany, Italy and Japan are struggling, I send you, Führer, my fervent good wishes and my cordial greeting.
